East of South Newport lies Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge, a 2,700-acre salt marsh that is home to waterfowl, deer, raccoons, possums, and minks. Travelers can drive through the refuge's 15 miles of trail to get a firsthand look at the native wildlife.
